The State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC) is seeking a visionary and dynamic leader to join the SBCTC team. This critical full-time position is based in Olympia, Washington and will oversee the workforce education department, including economic development, job training programs, continuing education, and customized training. OVERVIEW The Workforce Education Department of the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges serves the professional and technical programs of Washington?s 34 community and technical colleges; helps build regional and statewide partnerships between colleges and companies, labor organizations, and industry associations; works to provide resources to colleges to work with key strategic industries to build a strong labor force; oversees the professional-technical program approval process for the creation of new programs at colleges, offers incentive funding to colleges to start-up new programs in high demand fields; and provides the technical assistance and funding to colleges in program areas such as Apprenticeship, Centers of Excellence, Job skills, Customized Training Programs, I-BEST, Tech Prep, Worker Retraining, and WorkFirst. This position reports to the Deputy Executive Director of Education.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES ? Serve as advocate and spokesperson for workforce training programs and the role of the colleges in the state?s economic development agenda. Serve as the principal liaison to business, labor, government and education for issues related to workforce training and education. Coordinate the department?s legislative activities. ? Develop agency and system level strategies for workforce training and education. Analyze, develop, and implement policies related to workforce education. ? Work with the colleges in developing strategies to promote economic development at the local level, including the retention and recruitment of business and industry and customized training programs for business and industry. Provide leadership in developing statewide contracts that address the training needs of business and labor. ? Oversee administration of targeted state and federal funds for Carl Perkins, WorkFirst, Worker Retraining, high demand programs and Workforce Development grants. ? Provide leadership and support for articulation of workforce training programs with high schools, skills centers, and private vocational schools. ? Provide leadership and supervision for the workforce training education staff, programs, and functions.

COMPENSATION The annual compensation for this position is up to $103,000., DOQ. Washington State has a generous benefit package including health, dental, life insurance, long-term disability, retirement, and two optional deferred compensation programs.
